Easy French Bread

4 cups flour
¼ cup sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon yeast
1 cup warm water
½ to 1 cup more water
Instructions
Mix ingredients together in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, mix together yeast with 1 cup warm water. Let dissolve for 5 minutes. Add to flour mixture and mix until dough is sticky. Let rise 45 minutes or until doubled in volume. Punch down and shape into loaves. Let rise again 45 minutes. Cut slits across top and brush with beaten egg (optional). Bake at 375 for 20-25 minutes.
