Ingrédients

2 cups lard or shortening

1 ¼ cups sugar

2 eggs, beaten

2 teaspoons anise seed

6 cups flour, sifted

3 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup water, wine or brandy

2/3 cup sugar

5 tablespoons cinnamon

Instructions

Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Add eggs and anise seed, blending thoroughly. Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Add to mixture. Add water, wine or brandy and knead until well mixed. Roll 1/4" thick on lightly floured board and cut with fancy cutters. Sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar mixture. Bake at 350 until lightly browned, about 8-10 minutes.
