Sour Dough Bread Recipe

½ cup sugar
½ cup oil
½ teaspoon salt
1 cup starter
½ cup very warm water
5½ cups flour
Instructions
Dissolve yeast in warm water, then add sugar, oil, salt, starter, and flour. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl and knead for up to 10 minutes. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place until doubled. Punch down and shape into rolls or loaves.
For Rolls: Shape dough into balls for rolls and allow to rise for an additional 3 hours. Bake at 350°F for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
For Sweet Rolls: Roll dough into a rectangle and spread with melted butter. Sprinkle generously with sugar, cinnamon, and raisins. Roll up tightly and slice. Place slices on a greased baking sheet and let rise until doubled. Bake at 325°F for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Optionally, frost with icing after cooling.
For Loaf: Punch down dough, shape into loaves, and place in a greased loaf pan. Let rise for 1½ hours. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
Sour Dough Starter: In a plastic jar start with at least 1 cup of starter. Feed starter with 1 cup H2O, 1/2 cup sugar, 2T potato flakes.
