Custard Angel Food Cake

5 egg yolks
1/2 cup water
1 1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
5 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat egg yolks and water until very light. Add sugar and beat until thoroughly dissolved.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt and fold into egg mixture.
Beat egg whites until foamy and add cream of tartar. Continue beating until stiff, but not dry. Fold into egg yolk mixture and pour into an ungreased hot angelfood cake pan.
Bake for 45 minutes. Invert pan to cool. Garnish with strawberries and serve with whipped cream.
