Candied sweet potatoes

1 can of yams (sweet potatoes)
2 tablespoons of butter (optional)
1-2 tablespoons of brown sugar or maple syrup (optional)
Cinnamon (optional)

Drain the Yams: Open the can of yams and drain the liquid.
Heat: Place the yams in a saucepan over medium heat. You can add a little water or the syrup from the can if you want more moisture.
Add Flavorings: If desired, add butter, brown sugar, or maple syrup. You can also sprinkle in some cinnamon for extra flavor.
Cook: Stir gently to coat the yams and heat them through for about 5-10 minutes. Be careful not to mash them; you want to keep the pieces intact.
Taste and Adjust: Taste and add salt or additional sweeteners as needed.
Serve: Once heated and flavored to your liking, serve warm.
Alternative Method: Baking
If you prefer a baked version:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Drain the yams and place them in a baking dish.
Add butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon as desired.
Cover with foil and bake for about 20-30 minutes, removing the foil for the last 10 minutes to allow the top to caramelize slightly.
