total timeIngredients
1 ½ cups cooked garbanzo beans OR 1 can of garbanzo beans, strained, rinsed 3 times, with skin removed. Can also use black beans (my preferred)
3 ½ – 4 Tbsp maple syrup
½ tsp vanilla extract
¼ tsp salt (or less)
4 Tbsp unsweetened baking cocoa powder
2 Tbsp water or coxonut milk (optional)
Directions
In a blender or in a food processor, combine all the ingredients except water/coconut milk, using just 3 ½ Tbsp of maple syrup.
Puree until the mixture is smooth, about 30-60 seconds. Add water/coconut milk 1 Tbsp at a time to create the desired consistency. Taste the chocolate hummus and add the remaining maple syrup if desired.
Notes
I'm too lazy to remove skins from things, so my batches always need more liquid added than called for in this recipe. Any liquid could be used, but coconut milk makes for a nice creamy texture. This is the easiest way to sneak beans into the kids.
