Ingredients

2 tbsp oil (we used truffle)

¾ pound Emmentaler cheese (grated)

¾ pound Gruyère cheese (grated)

1 ⅓ tbsp cornstarch

1 cup dry white wine

1 tsp lemon juice

½ tbsp brandy

½ tbsp maraschino cherry juice

Black pepper (to taste)

1 tsp nutmeg

1½ tbsp garlic powder

1 tsp cayenne powder (optional)

Day-old bread

Pear

Apple

Salami

Fried potatoes

Broccoli

Mushrooms

Directions

Oil

Rub a warmed pot down with your oil. We chose truffle to impart some of that flavor into the cheese but anything will work.

Melt

In a pot over a cooking fire (or stove) of medium heat, slowly introduce the cheese in ½ cup increments, waiting about 30 seconds in between increments. Then add the wine, cornstarch, and lemon juice and stir occasionally until the cheese starts to melt. This step should take around 5 minutes.

Spice

Reduce your cooking fire or stove to low, then add in the brandy, cherry juice, and spices.

Cook

Stir gently until fully melted and smooth, about 3 minutes. Promptly remove from heat.

Serve

Lay the pot of cheese out near various dipping snacks and enjoy a hearty appetizer, or meal, before your next Dungeons and Dragons adventure!
