4 1/2 cups
servings-
total timeIngredients
4 pounds very ripe tomatoes, cut into chunks
Onion cut in chunks
4 copies of garlic
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon slivered fresh basil
Directions
1. Fill a blender ¾ of the way full with tomatoes, onion, garlic and puree until smooth. Pour pureed tomatoes into a soup pot and repeat with remaining tomatoes until all tomatoes are pureed
2. Add sugar, garlic powder, onion, oregano, salt, and pepper; stir until well mixed.
3. Bring to boil then reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered 1 hour, stirring occasionally. (Cooking this uncovered will allow the sauce to thicken up.) Stir in basil and serve.
If you are not planning on using all of this right away, why not freeze the rest? This freezes well in gallon-sized freeze bags or air-tight plastic containers for about 6 months. This way the delicious flavors will last!
