Ingredients

5 cups water (quite hot) may use potato water or add a couple handfuls of potato flakes to water

2/3 cups sugar

2/3 cup melted shortening

1 1/2 T salt

2 1/2 T yeast

about 12 cups flour

Directions

Add yeast to a bit of warm water. Put sugar, shortening and salt in a large bowl. Add the 5 cups of water. Stir until lukewarm then add the yeast. Gradually add the flour. Knead and let rise. Punch down and let rise again. Make into loaves and bake. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
