Bread And Butter Pickles

Ingredients

7 cucumbers, sliced

5 white onions, sliced

1 green pepper, chopped

1 small sweet red pepper,

chopped

1/4 cup salt

Cracked ice

Pickling solution:

2 1/2 cups white vinegar

2 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 T. mustard seed

1 teaspoon celery seed

3/4 tsp. turmeric

1/4 tsp. powdered cloves

Directions

• Prepare vegetables, mix in

salt and cracked ice, put in

cool place and let stand for at

least 3 hours; drain.

• Mix pickling solution, Add to

drained vegetables in pot or

kettle. Bring mixture to boil-

ing point, remove vegetables

to jars immediately and pour

hot liquid over; seal. Makes

about 6 pints.

• Caution: If kettle is allowed

to boil, pickles will become

soft. Be sure mixture is only

brought to a boil
